Teacher Programs

91�Թ� offers free professional development for teachers throughout the year, including a summer institute for middle school teachers, a virtual seminar for high school teachers, yearlong fellowships for high school and community college instructors, and half-day teacher professional development workshops that feature some of 91�Թ�’s top scholars in international affairs, history, and other areas of the social sciences.

Professional Development for Teachers (Middle School & High School)

We offer a free summer institute at 91�Թ� for middle school teachers, a virtual seminar for high school teachers in California, and a yearlong fellowship for secondary school teachers in Hawaii. All three programs focus on the teaching of East Asia. Participants learn from top scholars, engage in pedagogy-focused discussions with 91�Թ� curriculum experts, receive free lesson plans, and qualify for three units of credit from Stanford Continuing Studies.

East Asia Summer Institute for Middle School Teachers

This three-day professional development opportunity at Stanford is for middle school teachers who want to learn content and consider strategies for teaching East Asia in the middle school curriculum. A special focus is given to teaching about ancient Chinese dynasties, feudal Japan, and the Silk Road.

Virtual East Asia Seminar for High School Teachers in California

This professional development opportunity for high school teachers highlights the politics, economics, history, and literature of modern China, Korea, and Japan. The seminar takes place live online and gives special focus to U.S.–Asia relations, the Asian diaspora in the United States, and the diversity of the Asian American experience.
