After the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979, over 600,000 Cambodians fled to refugee camps throughout Southeast Asia. Pete Pin was born in one of these refugee camps, and he, his family, and more than 150,000 of their compatriots were eventually resettled in the United States. Today, Pete Pin is a Brooklyn-based photographer who travels around the United States to capture the stories and scenes of various Cambodian-American communities. My Cambodian America showcases Petes photography and highlights his effort to use photography as a way to talk about the past.
This work has made me become aware of the importance of my familys stories and the importance of having the opportunity宇o tell that story and to be a guardian of that history.
